A drug dealer operating in Brighton has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after a routine police stop by Specialist Enforcement Unit (SEU) officers. Asllan Hasbajrami, 21 years old, was apprehended in Preston Road for driving a vehicle without a valid license or insurance.
The SEU officers, patrolling the area, grew suspicious when Hasbajrami’s vehicle came to their attention. During the traffic stop, they noted the suspect’s nervous demeanour. In an attempt to mislead the officers, Hasbajrami provided false personal information and presented fraudulent identification documents.
However, a thorough search of the vehicle uncovered incriminating evidence, including cash, two burner phones, and 16 wraps of cocaine. Following the discovery, Brighton CID officers launched an investigation into Hasbajrami’s activities.
As a result of their findings, Hasbajrami was charged with multiple offences, including being concerned in the supply of class A drugs, driving without a valid license, driving without valid insurance, and obstructing or resisting arrest.
On January 12, during a hearing at Lewes Crown Court, Hasbajrami admitted to all the charges. He was subsequently sentenced to 18 months in prison for his criminal activities.
In addition to his prison sentence, Hasbajrami, formerly residing in Beaconsfield Road, Brighton, faces the possibility of deportation to Albania once he has served his prison term.
The incident took place in the early hours of October 14 last year when SEU officers initially spotted the vehicle. Later that night, they encountered Hasbajrami and arrested him, seizing the drugs and cash found in his possession.
SEU Inspector Ollie Pullen commented on the case, stating, “Our officers were carrying out proactive patrols in the city centre to help disrupt the use of the roads by criminals and drug dealers and disrupt the supply of drugs which cause so much harm in our communities. Hasbajrami was using a false Italian driving licence but was not able to spell the name given to the officers. We are pleased with the outcome of the case.”
This sentencing serves as a reminder of law enforcement’s commitment to tackling drug-related crime and ensuring the safety of the community.
