EastEnders’ Vicki Fowler Returns to Albert Square After 21 Years – Now Played by Alice Haig

After more than two decades away from Walford, Vicki Fowler has made a dramatic return to EastEnders, now played by actress Alice Haig. Fans of the long-running BBC soap were thrilled to see the character back on Albert Square after 21 years.

However, long-time viewers might remember that this isn’t Vicki’s first appearance on the iconic show. The character, born in 1986 to teenage mother Michelle Fowler, originally became a staple of the soap in the early 2000s, played by actress Scarlett Alice Johnson.

A Controversial Past

Vicki Fowler was born when Michelle, then just 16, became pregnant by Den Watts, the father of her best friend Sharon Watts. This shocking storyline set the tone for Vicki’s turbulent life in Walford.

While several child actors portrayed Vicki during her younger years, it was Scarlett Alice Johnson who took on the role in 2003, making a significant impact with her portrayal of the rebellious teen. During her time on the Square, Vicki found herself entangled in several controversial storylines, including dating an older man and becoming pregnant by Spencer Moon, younger brother of Alfie Moon. Vicki ultimately chose to terminate the pregnancy.

Her exit from the show in late 2004 came after overhearing her father admit that he did not love her as much as he loved Sharon, leading her to leave Walford for good—or so fans thought.

Where Is Scarlett Alice Johnson Now?

Following her departure from EastEnders, Scarlett continued to thrive in the entertainment industry. She took on roles in several TV series, including starring in the comedy Beaver Falls between 2011 and 2012, and the sitcom Pramface for two years. In 2019, she made a guest appearance in ITV’s The Good Karma Hospital, playing Tommy, the daughter of a series regular portrayed by Neil Morrissey.

Scarlett, now known professionally as Scarlett Verey after her marriage to fellow actor Sean Michael Verey, has also built a successful career as an acting coach. She tutors aspiring performers at City Academy, one of London’s leading creative arts centers, and works with The Actors Cove, a part-time acting and improvisation school.

In a recent statement, Scarlett’s spokesperson revealed that the EastEnders producers had approached her to reprise the role of Vicki Fowler. Though flattered by the offer, Scarlett declined, stating that the timing wasn’t right.

“Scarlett was approached and was flattered to be asked to return, but the timing wasn’t right for her to step back into the role. She wishes Alice Haig and the show all the very best,” the spokesperson told The Sun.

Alice Haig Takes on the Role

With Scarlett not returning, the role of Vicki Fowler has been recast with Alice Haig, and fans are eager to see how her character will integrate back into the EastEnders storyline. Alice’s portrayal marks a new chapter for Vicki, who now returns to Walford as a mature woman, ready to face the challenges of her past and reconnect with her roots.

Alice Haig’s portrayal of Vicki promises to bring a fresh dynamic to the beloved character while respecting her complicated history. As the story unfolds, viewers can expect emotional confrontations, family reunions, and plenty of drama.

Fans React

Social media has been buzzing since the announcement, with many expressing their excitement about Vicki’s return. One user tweeted,

“Vicki Fowler back on EastEnders? I’m here for it! Can’t wait to see how Alice Haig handles the role!”

Another fan posted,

“It’s been 21 years, and I still remember the drama Vicki brought to the Square! Welcome back!”

While some fans expressed nostalgia for Scarlett Alice Johnson’s version of Vicki, many are optimistic about Alice Haig’s interpretation, hoping it will honor the character’s legacy while exploring new storylines.

What’s Next for Vicki Fowler?

Vicki’s return to EastEnders is set to spark tension as she reconnects with her family and revisits old wounds. Will she find the acceptance she longs for, or will her past mistakes come back to haunt her? Fans will have to tune in to find out.

Catch EastEnders every weeknight on BBC One and BBC iPlayer to follow Vicki Fowler’s long-awaited comeback.
