A major counter terrorism investigation is underway after five Iranian nationals were arrested across the UK on suspicion of plotting a terrorist act.
The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command confirmed that all five were arrested during a pre-planned national operation on Saturday, 3 May, in coordinated raids in Swindon, London, Stockport, Rochdale, and Manchester.

- [B] A 46-year-old man arrested in West London
- [C] A 29-year-old man arrested in Stockport
- [D] A 40-year-old man arrested in Rochdale
- [E] A 24-year-old man arrested in Manchester
All men were arrested on suspicion of preparation of a terrorist act under the Terrorism Act (TACT) 2006. Four suspects [A-D] were detained under TACT, while the fifth man [E] was detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).
Latest Updates on the Investigation
Today, Monday, 5 May, police successfully obtained warrants of further detention for the four men held under TACT, allowing them to be questioned until Saturday, 10 May.
The fifth man has been released on bail with conditions, pending further investigation.
Officers are currently conducting searches at several properties across Greater Manchester, London, and Swindon as part of the ongoing operation.

Commander Dominic Murphy, Head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said:
“Our officers are progressing a significant and highly complex investigation, with public safety our absolute priority.
He confirmed that police believe a specific premises was targeted, although the exact location is being kept confidential for operational security reasons.
Commander Murphy also urged the public:
“Please do not speculate or share unverified information. We are at an early stage and pursuing all lines of enquiry, including motive and any further risks.
