Cricket mourns the loss of one of its most iconic figures. Harold Dennis “Dickie” Bird, the legendary Yorkshire umpire, has passed away peacefully at the age of 92.

Cricket World Pays Tribute

Known simply as Dickie Bird, he was a global cricketing legend behind the stumps from 1973 to 1996. His sharp Eyeeye and distinctive style made him one of the sport’s best-known umpires.

Yorkshire County Cricket Club confirmed the sad news in a heartfelt statement on social media:

“It is with profound sadness that The Yorkshire County Cricket Club announces the passing of Harold Dennis ‘Dickie’ Bird MBE OBE, one of cricket’s most beloved figures, who died peacefully at home at the age of 92.” “Everyone at Yorkshire County Cricket Club sends their thoughts to Dickie’s family and friends. He will be truly missed and remembered as one of Yorkshire’s greatest characters.”
