UK Cracks Down on Illegal Delivery Riders

Around 60 delivery riders are set to be deported after being caught working illegally across the UK. The Home Office launched a targeted sweep last month, leading to 171 arrests nationwide.

Gig Economy Under Fire

The crackdown hit hard in hotspots including Solihull, Newham, and Norwich. Chinese nationals were detained in a Solihull restaurant, while Bangladeshi and Indian delivery riders faced arrest in east London and Norfolk.

Firmer Borders, Tougher Enforcement

Border Security Minister Alex Norris warned: “If you are working illegally in this country, you will be arrested and removed.” He added the government is pushing tougher laws to snuff out illegal working in the delivery sector.

“This action is part of the most sweeping changes to illegal migration in modern times to reduce the incentives that draw illegal migrants here and scale up removals.”

Linking Arms with Deliveroo and Uber Eats

Ministers are teaming up with major food delivery firms like Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats. They aim to root out abuse in the sector by tightening identity checks and cracking down on account-sharing.
