UK Set for “Mini Heatwave” as Temperatures Soar Towards End of April – UKNIP

The UK is set to bask in summer-like conditions in just a matter of days, with forecasters predicting a “mini heatwave” that could bring the warmest temperatures of the year so far.

According to BBC Weather, highs of 25°C to 27°C are expected from early next week — potentially making it the warmest weather since early September 2024.

When Will the Warm Weather Arrive?

From Saturday (April 26), temperatures will start to climb, ranging between 13°C and 17°C, with western parts of the UK possibly experiencing some light rain. However, eastern areas are likely to stay dry with some cloud cover.

By Sunday (April 27), high pressure will begin to build, particularly over England and Wales, pushing clouds away and allowing for sunnier skies — just in time for major events like the London and Manchester marathons.

Temperatures Set to Peak Midweek

Darren Bett, BBC’s lead weather presenter, said the warming trend will continue into next week as winds shift to a south-easterly direction, pulling warmer air from continental Europe.

“Temperatures will climb widely to 22-23°C and it will feel very pleasant in the sunshine,” Bett explained.
“In the Midlands and south-east England, temperatures are forecast to reach **25-27°C by Wednesday (April 30).”

While these figures are not record-breaking, they are significantly above average for April. The UK’s highest April temperature on record is 29.4°C, set in London on 16 April 1949. The last time April reached 27°C was in 2018, in Cambridge.

How Long Will the Mini Heatwave Last?

The warm spell is expected to last until at least the end of next week, thanks to a “blocked” weather pattern. High pressure to the east and low pressure to the west are combining to funnel warm air from Europe into the UK.

Bett cautioned that the positioning of these weather systems could shift by next weekend, possibly bringing cooler air to northern areas and showers further south.

“This is still some way off and may change,” he added.

Staying Safe in the Sun

With sunshine on the way, Brits are being reminded to:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Use sun cream
  • Avoid prolonged exposure during peak UV hours
  • Keep homes cool by closing blinds during the hottest parts of the day
