Cash Machine Thieves Make a Right Pig’s Ear of It in Ewell

Thieves who smashed their way into Ewell’s Cox Lane Co-op in the dead of night left a trail of evidence for cops to work with after ripping out a cash machine in a brazen raid early Monday morning (Nov 27).

Ram Raid Targets Ewell Co-op

A car was used as a battering ram to smash through the shop’s front windows at around 4am. The robber squad made off with the cash machine and a haul of cash. Police swooped in, locking down the store and guarding the scene as investigations ramp up.

Neighbouring residents alerted officers, prompting the National Air Support helicopter to join the hunt for the getaway vehicle flying from the scene.

Forgotten Clues and Mask Left Behind

The crooks didn’t exactly cover their tracks. Damaged locks and abandoned burglary tools were found scattered in the car park, hidden under a plastic sheet. A black stocking mask was left in a heap nearby — a vital clue cops are combing over.

A shaken Co-op staff member, speaking anonymously, said: “We’re gutted. We’re part of this community and do so much for it. Feels like we’ve been badly let down.”

Police Hunt For More Leads

Surrey Police confirmed officers will patrol the area to reassure locals. They’re piecing together the daring raid and chasing leads to find the culprits. They’ve urged landowners to check their property for anything dumped by the suspects and want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity around that time.

Witnesses should ring police on 101.
