Police Officer Struck by Car in Grays – Woman Charged
A police officer suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Grays on Saturday morning, October 31. The shocking incident happened just before 8am when the officer was struck following an attempt to stop the vehicle.
Driver Defies Police, Then Reverses Into Officer
The driver initially pulled into a layby after police requested her to stop. But instead of complying, she reversed back onto the main road. When the officer tried to get the driver to return to the layby, the car collided with her and sped off.
Officer Airlifted to Hospital with Serious Injuries
The injured officer was airlifted to hospital and is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Woman Charged – Court Date Set
Abiola Akilla, 45, of Godman Road, Grays, has been charged with:
- Causing grievous bodily harm with intent
- Causing serious injury by dangerous driving
- Failing to stop after an accident
- Driving without insurance
- Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence
Akilla is set to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 2, and has been remanded in custody.
A 22-year-old man from Grays was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice but will face no further action.
