Restaurant Fined £1,000 for Staying Open After 10pm Curfew

Sevenoaks Eatery Caught Trading Late

Patrols from Sevenoaks Community Safety Unit swooped on a London Road restaurant just before 10.30pm on Wednesday, 4 November 2020. Despite the 10pm coronavirus curfew, the venue was still serving customers inside. After officers spoke with staff and diners, the restaurant finally shut its doors.

Manager Hits With £1,000 Fine

Two days later, on Friday 6 November, the manager made a trip to Sevenoaks police station. There, he was slapped with a £1,000 fixed penalty notice. The fine was for breaching rules requiring businesses to shut between 10pm and 5am.

Police Warn: Serious Penalties for Rule Breakers

District Commander Chief Inspector Jon Kirby said: “While most Sevenoaks eateries respect closing times, this venue ignored the rules, so officers handed out a fine.”

“Businesses that break the guidelines risk fines up to £10,000 or even prosecution. We’ll keep working with partners to engage, explain and enforce coronavirus laws.”
