West End Hairdresser Faces £10k Fine for Turning Basement Into Illegal Nightclub
The owner of a West End hairdresser is in hot water after turning the basement of his Soho barbershop into an unlicensed nightclub packed with revellers.
Secret Clubbing in Soho Basement
Met officers raided Clip and Grind on D’arbly Street at around 1am on Friday, 11 December. Beyond the usual sinks and barber chairs, a hidden staircase led down to a makeshift bar and dancefloor. DJs were spinning on turntables, while over 100 partygoers squeezed inside.
Crowds Dispersed, Owner Faces Steep Penalty
The party was swiftly shut down and the owner identified. Now, he faces a £10,000 fixed penalty notice for breaking Covid restrictions and licensing laws.
Police Warn Against Flouting Covid Rules
“London is on the cusp of stricter restrictions and it is deeply concerning and irritating that people are still willing to break the rules and put the health of Londoners at risk,” said PC Steve Muldoon from the Soho policing team.
“Over the last couple of weeks, we have responded to a number of parties and unlicensed music events across Soho. It is frankly shocking that people are willing to break the rules, which are clearly there to keep people safe.
“At this critical time for our city, I would urge everyone to stick to the rules. They are there to keep us all safe and prevent the spread of the virus.”
