Basement Blaze Sparks Hotel Evacuation as Firefighters Race to Control Flames
Fire Hits Seven-Storey Building Basement
A fire broke out in the basement of a seven-storey commercial building, sparking chaos in the early hours. Around 75 hotel guests staying above were evacuated as a precaution while the London Fire Brigade tackled the blaze.
Smoke Inhalation Checks on Two
London Ambulance Service crews assessed two individuals at the scene for smoke inhalation but no serious injuries were reported.
Cause Linked to Careless Smoking
Fire investigators believe the blaze was started by unsafe disposal of smoking materials. Station Commander Emma Carr warned:
“The fire was in the basement of a seven-storey commercial building and crews worked hard to bring the fire under control. We had to evacuate around 75 people as a precaution due to smoke spread.
“It’s believed this fire was caused by unsafely discarded smoking materials. We’d rather you didn’t smoke at all, but if you are a smoker, it’s absolutely vital you ensure your cigarette is completely out when you’ve finished smoking it.”
Fast Response from Fire Brigade
The Brigade received the call at 1.48am. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Soho, Euston, Lambeth, and Dowgate stations arrived swiftly. The fire was under control by 3.03am, preventing further damage and injury.
