Shock Murder Rocks Ashton-under-Lyne Flat

Police were called just before 9:15am today to a flat on Manchester Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, after a woman was found dead.

Man Arrested in Murder Probe

A 51-year-old man handed himself in at a local police station shortly after the discovery. He is now in custody, being grilled by Major Incident Team detectives on suspicion of murder.

Family Notified and Supported

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving specialist support. Detectives confirm no other suspects are being sought at this time.

“This is truly shocking news for this young woman’s loved ones to receive today,” said Detective Chief Inspector Liam Boden. “We are committed to doing everything we can to support her family and get them the answers they deserve.”

“We have one man in custody after he came into Ashton police station very shortly after the incident was reported to us; he is now being questioned on suspicion of her murder.”
