Medway Police Clamp Down on Night-Time Crime

Medway’s Community Policing Team hit the streets between Friday 7 and Saturday 8 October 2022, ramping up patrols to keep night-time visitors safe. Their mission? Stop crime before it starts and protect those out socialising.

Drink Spiking Kits Handed Out to Women in Rochester

On Rochester High Street, officers handed out free drink spiking prevention kits to women. The packs included personal attack alarms, bottle caps, hair scrunchie drink covers, spiking test strips, and safety leaflets. Police also offered practical crime prevention tips to help women stay alert and secure while enjoying their night out.

Two Arrests Made After Quick Police Action

  • A 32-year-old man was arrested near Rochester High Street on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman just minutes earlier. He’s now been bailed until 2 November as investigations continue.
  • Officers also helped a distressed woman who claimed her partner had assaulted her. Police nabbed a 24-year-old suspect and bailed him with conditions until 27 October.

Chief Inspector Pledges Continued Police Presence

“This operation shows how vital our work is,” said District Commander Chief Inspector Shona Lowndes. “We can act fast to catch offenders, reassure victims, and gather intelligence to fight future crimes. We want women and girls to enjoy the town safely after dark. We’ll keep running these patrols to show criminals we can be anywhere at any time.”
