Brutal Rapist Elias Arberry Locked Up for Life
Elias Arberry, 25, from Moorland Road, has been handed a life sentence at Taunton Crown Court. Locked up for a minimum of 15 and a half years, Arberry pleaded guilty to seven shocking offences. These include four counts of rape, two sexual assaults, and one count of wounding with intent.
Violent Attack Left Victim Fighting for Life
In May this year, Arberry violently assaulted the unnamed victim, inflicting serious injuries before raping her. The victim managed to escape when Arberry fell asleep and raised the alarm.
Police launched a 26-hour hunt and found Arberry hiding in a hotel in Weston-super-Mare. He will now be a registered sex offender for life.
Victim Speaks Out: “I Can’t Escape This Nightmare”
“At my age, most people think about settling down and finding a partner. That opportunity has been stolen from me,” said the victim.
“I am extremely angry. This has affected every part of my life, day and night. I doubt I’ll ever get past this.”
The victim has also been granted a lifetime restraining order against Arberry.
Her mother added, “Since that day in May, it’s been a nightmare. You hear about violence against women but never expect it to hit your family. I hate Arberry for what he’s done to my daughter.”
Police and Prosecutors Praise Victim’s Bravery
Detective Inspector Nadine Partridge described the crimes as “among the worst I’ve investigated.” She praised the victim’s courage, saying:
“Thanks to her bravery, a dangerous man is behind bars and can no longer harm others. This verdict brings hope and closure for the victim and her family.”
Senior Crown Prosecutor Gareth Giddings of the CPS South West Rape and Serious Sexual Offences unit added:
“The CPS worked closely with police to build a strong case. Arberry’s guilty plea shows he is fully accountable for his appalling crimes.
“I commend the victim for coming forward. Rape and sexual assault devastate lives, and we’re committed to justice and public safety.”
