The Metropolitan Police are investigating a shocking incident that left a 68-year-old man dead outside Stoke Newington Police Station. The tragedy unfolded on Saturday night, forcing the closure of the station’s front desk.
Man Climbs Phone Kiosk Before Fatal Leap
According to Hackney Police, the man climbed atop a telephone kiosk at the front office and jumped off, suffering critical injuries. Despite desperate efforts by officers and emergency crews, he died at the scene.
Man Was Not Detained or Apprehended
Officers stress the man was not held or brought into custody. He had been coming and going from the police station since around 9 a.m., but did not try to contact police directly.
“At no point was he detained or apprehended by cops, and he entered the front office of his own volition,” a police spokesperson confirmed. They have notified the deceased’s next of kin.
Investigation Underway, Cordon in Place
- A note was found, and a report will be sent to the coroner.
- The police station was closed just before 7 p.m., with a cordon set up around the area.
