Selsey Coastguard Juggles Two Coastal Crises in One Day
The Selsey Coastguard Team faced a hectic day, springing into action twice to tackle urgent incidents along the shore.
Stranded RHIB Found on Selsey Beach
At 6:21am, reports came in of a rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) washed up on Selsey Beach. The team moved fast, gathering details about the vessel and passing them on to their Operations Centre. Thanks to quick detective work, they tracked down the owner. The RHIB was securely anchored to the breakwater, awaiting pickup. With the situation handled, the coastguards stood down and readied for the next call.
Tide Traps Fisherman at Pagham Harbour Entrance
Later at 4:10pm, a distress call reported a person cut off by the tide near Pagham Harbour. Selsey Coastguard teamed up with the Selsey Inshore Lifeboat and Littlehampton Coastguard to launch a search. Though no one was spotted in the water, a watchful coastguard at Church Norton spotted a lone figure along the opposite bank. They called the Lifeboat to assist.
The mystery man turned out to be the missing fisherman, caught out by the rising tide while unaware of the danger. Thankfully, he managed to make it safely back to shore—unharmed.
