Mayfair Blaze Sparks Panic at Star-Studded MNKY HSE

A sparkler in a cocktail nearly turned a festive night into disaster at Mayfair’s swanky MNKY HSE restaurant. The London Fire Brigade revealed that a sparkler set off a blazing fire, ripping through the venue on Dover Street.

Christmas Tree Goes Up in Flames

Friday night chaos unfolded on December 16 as a natural Christmas tree caught fire, sparking panic among diners. Terrified guests were caught on camera rushing from the burning restaurant, with the tree arcing ominously over a doorway. MNKY HSE, popular with celebrities like Maya Jama, became the scene of a dramatic fire emergency.

Firefighters Race to the Rescue

  • Five fire engines and 35 firefighters scrambled to the scene.
  • The blaze started in the basement but was already extinguished by the time fire crews arrived at 9:40 p.m.
  • Thermal imaging was later used to ensure the fire was fully out.
  • Emergency services treated two people for injuries.

LFB Warns: Beware Sparklers and Candles This Christmas

“This fire was caused by an indoor sparkler catching a natural Christmas tree alight,” an LFB spokesperson said.

They urged festive revellers to exercise caution, warning:

“There are many fire hazards around Christmas. Please keep candles and indoor fireworks away from Christmas trees and decorations. Even a well-watered tree can catch fire. Make sure your lights are working properly and naked flames are kept well away. Never overload sockets or leave things unattended, especially after a festive tipple.”

Enjoy the holidays, but stay safe—sparklers in drinks are far from sparkling fun.
