Massive Explosion Levels Home in Morriston

A devastating blast ripped through Morriston at 11 a.m. on Monday, triggering a major incident response. Emergency teams rushed to the scene at the crossroads of Field Close and Clydach Road after reports of a loud boom that residents likened to a car crash.

Severe Damage and Dozens Displaced

Wales & West Utilities confirmed one property was completely flattened, describing the structural damage as “severe.” Council leader Rob Stewart revealed that around 100 people have been forced from their homes. “One home has been completely destroyed, and another has been severely damaged,” he said. “Within the cordon, at least 20-30 properties are affected.”

Local resident Marjorie Lewis told how she saw a boy trapped under rubble. “The roof was all on the floor, and there was a boy in the rubble,” she said. “I called the cops straight away and they arrived within minutes. It was terrifying and shook the entire neighbourhood.”

She estimated that four or five homes sustained damage from the blast.

Neighbours Shaken, Emergency Services Active

Swansea councillor Ceri Evans, less than a mile from the blast, said: “The whole house shook, windows rattled. When I heard it, I ran outside.” South Wales Police have cordoned off the area and asked the public to avoid the streets near the incident as emergency crews work to secure the scene.

A police spokesperson urged, “Emergency services are on site, and we need people to stay clear while we handle this serious incident.”

Cause Unknown as Rescue Efforts Continue

Wales & West Utilities told reporters the cause of the explosion remains undetermined. Their engineers are working alongside emergency teams to make the area safe. The Welsh Ambulance Service and multiple fire crews from Morriston, Swansea West, Neath, Gorseinon, and Port Talbot were all called out to tackle the petrol explosion aftermath.

In a community show of support, Morriston Town AFC football club said it was “devastated” over the incident and urged locals affected to contact the club or drop in to warm up.
