Driver Chases Motorbike at 80mph, Kills Rider in Horror Crash

Thomas Maguire was riding along Kings Road on 18 May when tragedy struck. His motorbike was smashed into by a Ford Focus driven by Kerry Fair.

Fair, 39, had deliberately chased Thomas after being told he had taken the bike from her daughter’s boyfriend’s address just hours earlier. The motorbike itself was stolen from Birmingham back in 2018.

Speed Demon Flees Scene Leaving Man Critically Injured

  • Footage showed Fair racing between 76 and 86 mph in a 30mph zone while pursuing Thomas.
  • She smashed into Thomas’s bike, knocking him off and leaving him critically hurt.
  • Fair ditched the car on the roadside, engine running and steering lock still on — before disappearing.

Thomas’s friends rushed him to hospital, where he fought for his life for three weeks before sadly passing away on 9 June.

Kerry Fair Caught and Jailed for Manslaughter

Fair’s wallet was found in the car’s front door pocket, leading to her arrest soon after the crash.

Last week at Birmingham Crown Court, the 39-year-old from Parkeston Crescent, Kingstanding, was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced today to 14 years behind bars.

Family Breaks Silence: “We Miss Him Every Day”

“Thomas is our first thought in the morning and our last at night, he is loved and missed by each and every one of us. No one will ever replace him,” his family said.

“We miss his crazy ways, the laughs and our mad chats. As the younger children grow, they’ll always know how proud Thomas was and the softer side he showed.

“He looked after his mum and family — now we must look after her. Hopefully, we can do him proud.

“With today’s guilty verdict and 14-year sentence, Thomas gets some justice. Rest peacefully, Thomas.”

Detective Slams Reckless Chase

Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood said: “At those speeds, Fair was utterly reckless, showing no regard for Thomas’s safety.

“If she’d braked when she saw she was gaining on the motorbike, this tragic crash could have been avoided.

“Our thoughts remain with Thomas’s family. We hope today’s sentence brings them some closure.”
