Michael Mullins, the much-loved headteacher of Stretford Grammar School, tragically died after his bike was smashed by a car in Altrincham on Monday evening. The 56-year-old father and grandfather had been leading the school for 17 years and lived with his family in Weaverham, Northwich. The school closed on Tuesday in his honour but reopened on Wednesday.
Four Arrested After Fatal Collision
Greater Manchester Police revealed Mr. Mullins was hit around 6pm on Paddock Lane. The vehicle involved sped off, but police later arrested four people – three men and a woman – on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. All remain in custody.
Community Mourns a True Advocate
Floral tributes and a football shirt from Longford Park Junior Football Club now adorn the school gates. The club said on social media: “We are deeply saddened by this shock news. Mr Mullins was a passionate supporter of grassroots football and our community. For nearly a decade, he stood behind our club and helped tear down barriers, giving kids a safe place to play. His kindness and dedication will never be forgotten.”
Family Pay Heartbreaking Tribute
Mr Mullins’ family shared a moving statement:
“Our loving Dad, husband, brother-in-law, ‘Diddy’, uncle, and son-in-law passed away after being knocked off his bike. He was devoted to his family and our lives will never be the same. A gap has been left in our hearts and within his role as headteacher.
He gave us fantastic memories, including getting lost at night around Washington D.C. But it was as a grandad where he truly excelled. At this time, we ask for privacy. Our love and memories will know no limits – to Saturn and beyond.”
