A 30-year-old man has been charged with killing his 82-year-old grandmother in Glasgow’s Carntyne area.

Elizabeth “Betty” Colligan, a beloved former lollipop lady, was found dead outside her home around 4am last Saturday. Neighbours described her as a “nice wee lady” and have left flowers in her memory on Cardowan Road.

Grant McKinnon in Court

Grant McKinnon made a quiet court appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday. He entered no plea and has been remanded in custody. Sheriff Stuart Reid ordered further examination, with McKinnon expected to return to court within eight days.    

Police Hunt and Additional Charges

Police had been searching for McKinnon for four days after naming him as a person of interest. He was arrested on Tuesday. Besides the murder charge, he also faces a separate charge under the Communications Act.
