Buxton man locked up for abuse tormenting partner for two long years
William Goodayle’s dark reign ends behind bars
William Goodayle, 39, from Monsal Avenue, Fairfield, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after a Derby Crown Court found him guilty of controlling and coercive behaviour against his partner.
The ruling came on Friday 24 February, alongside a crushing seven-year restraining order aimed at keeping him well away from his victim.
Victim trapped in a home turned prison
“William Goodayle’s manipulation, violence and controlling behaviour has had an enormously damaging effect, leaving his partner to feel afraid in her own home – a place that should be safe and secure. Instead, it was a place of fear and anxiety,” said Temporary Detective Constable Victoria Atherton.
“He constantly belittled her, bombarding her with derogatory messages especially targeting her gender. His insidious control stole her independence and drove her away from family and friends.”
“Despite concerns from those close to her, she felt trapped and was too scared to speak out. Sadly, this psychological abuse is all too common in relationships and can leave long-lasting scars.”
Police urge victims to break the silence
Temp DC Atherton added: “Breaking the cycle of abuse is tough and often takes multiple attempts. But if you see yourself in this story, please seek help.”
“I commend the victim’s bravery through a lengthy investigation. We hope the sentencing and restraining order offer her peace and a chance to rebuild a family life free from fear.”
“This is not love — it’s abuse. No one should live in terror. Police and support organisations are ready to help whenever you need.”
