Ex-Met Cop in Court Over Dead People’s Bank Card Scam

A former Metropolitan Police officer has landed in hot water, accused of ripping off dead people’s bank cards to buy goods and flog them for cash. Muhammed Mustafa Darr, 37, faces serious charges after a corruption probe exposed a series of shocking allegations.

Stealing from Suspects and Hacking Police Systems

Darr allegedly stole a laptop and a suitcase from the Mercedes of a suspect previously detained by fellow officers. He also reportedly used police computer systems to snoop on himself and others without any legit reason.

On top of this, Darr is accused of trying to cover his tracks by encouraging Asif Mushtaq, linked to an ongoing investigation, to hide or destroy evidence.

Charges and Court Appearance

Charged with three counts of misconduct in public office and one count of perverting the course of justice, Darr was working as a Met constable between December 2018 and June 2020 in the North Area Basic Command Unit.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court wearing a hood and surgical mask, only confirming his name, date of birth, and east London address. No plea was entered at this stage.

Bail and Next Steps

Darr was granted bail by District Judge Briony Clarke, with the condition he stays at his home in Walthamstow. He is due back at Southwark Crown Court on May 24.

The criminal charges follow a Met directorate of professional standards investigation, overseen by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service.
