Man Collapses at Solihull Construction Site – Dies After Emergency Airlift
Emergency services rushed to Middle Bickenhill Lane, Marston Green, shortly after 4pm on Thursday, April 27, following reports of a man in serious trouble.
Major Emergency Response Called In
West Midlands Ambulance Service scrambled a full medical team including the Midlands Air Ambulance, a trauma doctor from the Medical Emergency Response Intervention Team (MERIT), an ambulance, and a paramedic officer.
They found a man believed to be in his early 70s in cardiac arrest at the industrial site. Ambulance crews soon requested urgent help to transfer him to the air ambulance.
Firefighters Assist in Critical Rescue
A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman confirmed: “We responded at 4.58pm with a 4×4 response vehicle and fire engines from Sheldon and Hay Mills to support ambulance crews in carrying the patient to the air ambulance.”
Tragic End After Serious Injuries
The ambulance team treated the man at the scene before he was airlifted to a major trauma centre. Unfortunately, West Midlands Police confirmed the man later died from his injuries.
A police spokesman said: “We were called to the Solihull construction site after reports of an injury. Despite being taken to hospital, the man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. We are working alongside the Health & Safety Executive as investigations continue.”
