Greater Manchester Police Targeted in Cyber Attack
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has been hit by a cyber attack, exposing personal information of its officers. The breach has sparked major alarms over data security and privacy.
Ransomware Hits Third-Party Supplier
Assistant Chief Constable Colin McFarlane confirmed the attack, revealing it targeted a third-party supplier used by GMP and other UK organisations. “We are aware of a ransomware attack affecting a third-party supplier of various UK organisations, including GMP, which holds some information on those employed by GMP,” he said.
No Financial Data Breached – For Now
McFarlane stressed that no financial data appears to have been compromised at this stage. Still, he warned that the breach of personal details remains a serious concern.
GMP Acts Fast to Protect Staff
- The force has alerted the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
- They are working closely with authorities to investigate the full scale of the attack.
- Employees are being kept informed and supported throughout the ordeal.
GMP vows to keep its officers safe and secure, promising quick answers and full transparency as the investigation unfolds.
