A horrifying school bus crash in Clavering, Essex, left two children rushed to hospital after the roof was torn clean off the vehicle. The smash happened just after 8:15am today, sparking a rapid emergency response.

Police were called to Clatterbury Lane, south of Cambridge, where the Joyce Frankland Academy bus – carrying pupils, including some from Saffron Walden County High School – collided with a tree branch. The impact was so severe the entire roof of the bus was ripped off and left leaning against the single-decker.
Chaos on the Scene: Emergency Services Rush In
Firefighters and ambulance crews arrived quickly to treat the injured and secure the wreckage. Essex County Fire and Rescue confirmed both a car and the bus had collided, with the bus then striking the tree branch that caused the roof damage. Thankfully, no one was trapped inside either vehicle.
Minor Injuries but Trauma Prompts Support
Several students suffered cuts and grazes, but school officials are relieved there were no serious injuries. Joyce Frankland Academy has provided a minibus to get pupils to school and set up a support space for those shaken by the crash.
