Acid Attack Horror in Worksop: Man Jailed for 18 Months

Craig Rose, 43, has been locked up for 18 months after a brutal acid attack left a man seriously injured outside a Worksop pub. The savage assault happened just after 3am on February 12, 2023, in Victoria Square, sending shockwaves through the town.

Unprovoked Attack Causes Horrific Eye Injuries

Rose, from Shrewsbury Road, Worksop, shouted “acid” as he threw a corrosive liquid from a drinks bottle at his victim. The vile substance mangled the man’s right eye, damaging the cornea so badly his sight is lost forever. His left eye also suffered burns, alongside painful injuries to his lips and tongue.

The victim was cycling when Rose confronted him on the street. The attacker’s motive remains a mystery, and police suspect Rose may have targeted the wrong person.

Passerby’s Quick Thinking Saves Victim From Worse

A passerby stopped in a car and quickly rinsed the victim’s face with Coca Cola and melted ice. The swift action eased the excruciating burning before the victim rushed to Bassetlaw Hospital. Eye specialists later confirmed the severe damage at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Police Praise Investigation That Nabbed Attacker

Rose pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm without intent and was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on October 6. Detective Constable Christine Hewlett branded the attack “recklessly dangerous,” warning the victim faces lifelong injuries.

“The nature of this attack is utterly horrific, and we are relieved to have brought Rose to justice,” said DC Hewlett.

Police tracked Rose down hiding in a loft after a high-profile media appeal, ending this terrifying chapter for the Worksop community.
