Major Traffic Hassles Hit Isle of Wight as Southern Water Starts Pipe Works

Motorists on the Isle of Wight brace yourselves! From Tuesday 29th, Southern Water’s pipe replacement at Northwood will bring traffic chaos with two-way lights causing delays for up to a month. The work covers a 300-metre stretch from the Horseshoe junction towards Newport.

Delays Expected Despite Efforts to Ease Traffic

Kevin Burton, Island Roads network manager, warned that although much of the work is scheduled outside busy school terms to reduce disruption, delays are unavoidable. Both Nodes Road and Newport Road near the Horseshoe traffic lights will be controlled by two-way signals as the upgrade takes place.

Island Roads Teams Up to Keep Disruption Down

“Though this is not our scheme, Island Roads has been closely working with Southern Water, their contractors, and the Isle of Wight Council to keep delays to a minimum,” said Mr Burton. He urged drivers to factor in extra travel time. “This essential infrastructure upgrade unfortunately means some hold-ups in this busy spot.”

Key advice:

  • Expect delays near Northwood’s Horseshoe junction
  • Plan your journey with extra time
  • Watch out for two-way traffic lights on Nodes Road and Newport Road
