XL Bully Ban Incoming: Owners Must Register Now or Face the Axe
XL Bully dog owners have just weeks to act before a nationwide ban kicks in on February 1 next year. From today, all owners must register their dogs for exemption or risk breaking the law.
Strict Rules for Exempt Dogs
Those lucky enough to secure an exemption must follow tough rules. This means muzzling and always keeping their dog on a lead in public. Microchipping and neutering are also mandatory.
- Dogs over one year old by January 31 must be neutered by June 30.
- Pups under 12 months must be neutered by December 31, 2024.
No Exemption? No Mercy
Fail to get a certificate of exemption, and owners face severe consequences. This includes criminal charges, unlimited fines, and having their dogs seized. The crackdown leaves no room for excuses.
Why the Crackdown?
Prime Minister 1 labelled XL Bullies a “danger to communities” following a fatal suspected attack in Staffordshire and several other violent incidents. The breed’s threat to public safety sealed the government’s tough stance.
