Major Cannabis Factory Raided In Winchester City Centre Nightclub, 54-year-old Arrested

In a significant operation, Hampshire police officers raided a large cannabis factory hidden within the Vodka Nightclub in Winchester City Centre. The raid, executed in the early hours of Monday, 21st November, led to the discovery of a substantial number of cannabis plants and the arrest of a 54-year-old man.

The nightclub, located on Upper Brook Street, Winchester, was the site of intense police activity as various stages of cannabis plant growth were uncovered inside. A scene has been established at the location as officers work to assess the full extent of the drug production operation. All discovered plants are set to be seized and destroyed.

The arrested individual, a 54-year-old man from Winchester, is being held on suspicion of producing a controlled Class B drug. He remains in custody while police enquiries continue.

This large-scale operation involved a coordinated effort from multiple police units, including the Winchester Priority Crime Team, Neighbourhood Policing Team, Criminal Investigation Department, Joint Operations Unit, Licensing, and Intelligence Operations.

Inspector Matt Kirby, overseeing the operation, emphasized the importance of such raids, linking large-scale drug production to organized crime groups often associated with serious violence. He highlighted the risks posed by the electrical equipment and building modifications needed for such operations, citing them as significant fire hazards.

Kirby urged the community to report any suspicious behavior or suspected drug dealing. He stressed that community intelligence is crucial in developing a broader picture that enables police to take action and remove drugs from the streets.

Acknowledging the impact of the raid on the local community, especially in a busy city center, Inspector Kirby thanked residents for their patience and understanding as the police tried to minimize disruption.

This operation is a part of ongoing efforts by Hampshire police to combat drug production and distribution, aiming to dismantle organized crime networks and protect communities from associated dangers. Further updates on the investigation and the arrested individual’s status are expected as enquiries progress.
