Brazen Daylight Cash Van Heist Foiled in Mansfield Road
Three men are set to face court over a daring attempted robbery on a security van at a BP garage in Woodthorpe.
Attack on Cash Van Driver
At around 2.40pm on Friday, two men lunged at a security driver carrying a cash box outside the petrol station. They tried to snatch the box but failed. The pair then fled in a car that had dropped them off moments earlier.
Suspects Caught After Police Chase
Police quickly identified the getaway car and stopped it in Staffordshire. Three men inside – Georghita Ciucur (34) from Birmingham, Marius Ilie Oana (27), and Gymi Adrian Tery Virtan (24) both from Soho, Birmingham – were arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. Virtan also faces charges for driving without a licence.
Detective Vows Swift Justice
“This was a very serious and brazen attack on a security driver in broad daylight,” said Detective Constable Agnes Wakenhut of Nottinghamshire Police.
“We respond quickly to violent crimes like this, especially when public safety is at risk. We’re pleased to have charged the suspects, but our investigation is ongoing.”
The three men are due at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday 7 November.
