Blue Badge Cheats Hit With £6,800 Fines in Bromley Crackdown
Authorities have slammed a hefty £6,808 in fines and costs on offenders caught misusing Blue Badges. From stolen to cancelled badges, the Bromley crackdown exposes how some drivers shamelessly exploited parking concessions meant for the disabled.
Stolen, Cancelled, and Dead Badge Misuse
Fourteen cases involved drivers flashing cancelled Blue Badges — eight were stolen, four reported lost, and two used badges belonging to deceased holders. Another three offenders refused to name the driver involved in the suspected misuse, resulting in prosecution under the Greater London Council (General Powers) Act 1972.
Only people with mobility-impairing disabilities are entitled to Blue Badges, which grant easy parking close to their destination. But these cheats flaunted the rules, robbing legitimate holders of this essential benefit.
“The council will continue to protect the integrity of the Blue Badge scheme,” a council spokesperson said. “Misuse is serious and undermines genuine badge holders’ rights.”
