Two Teens Convicted of Murder in Chingford Stabbing
Two 16-year-olds have been found guilty of murdering 17-year-old Chima Osuji in a brutal knife attack in Chingford. The teenagers, who cannot be named for legal reasons, used knives to ambush Chima after luring him to Longshaw Road. Forensic evidence, CCTV, and mobile phone data were crucial in securing their conviction.
Planned Ambush Ends in Tragedy
Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith of the Met’s homicide team revealed the chilling details: “By methodically unpicking the events leading up to the attack on Chima, we could establish both teenagers conspired to carry out this cowardly assault.”
The pair spent the evening together before taking a minicab to the attack site. They hid behind parked vans before stabbing the unsuspecting Chima. They fled within minutes in the waiting cab, reportedly celebrating their rampage as Chima lay gravely injured on the pavement.
No Motive, But Premeditated Violence
Neither teen has explained why they carried out the savage assault. The evidence clearly shows this was no random act. A sword was found at the scene with one attacker’s fingerprint, though it wasn’t used in the fatal stabbings.
The murder investigation sprang into action after emergency services were called at 9:20pm on April 10, 2023. Despite rapid first aid from paramedics and bystanders, Chima died at the scene.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests
Police quickly identified two male suspects via CCTV. A teenager who was with Chima at the time escaped unscathed and helped identify one attacker. Both suspects were arrested within three days. Phone data and forensic evidence pieced together a timeline proving Chima was lured to the scene by a third party.
During custody, both teens refused to answer questions but were charged with murder. They were tried at Snaresbrook Crown Court and found guilty on January 22. Sentencing is set for March 1 at the same court.
