West Midlands Police have taken a significant step forward in their investigation into a hit-and-run incident involving an officer in Walsall. A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer sustained leg injuries in the collision.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 am on Thursday, 24th February, when a vehicle struck the officer on Reservoir Place before fleeing the scene. The injured officer was pushed against a police vehicle by the impact of the collision. Although the car was found abandoned later on, immediate efforts to identify and locate the driver are ongoing.
In a commendable display of swift action, authorities acted on information received and intercepted a vehicle in Oldbury at approximately 5:15 am today. Subsequent searches led to the discovery of drugs, and the 28-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of drugs with intent to supply.
Additionally, a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and in connection with the drugs found. Both individuals are currently in police custody for questioning.
The injured officer, who sustained serious leg injuries in the hit-and-run, has been hospitalized for treatment. While authorities express optimism that the injuries won’t be life-changing, the officer’s recovery is still in its early stages, with ongoing assessments being conducted.
Chief Superintendent Phil Dolby, from Walsall Local Policing Area (LPA), condemned the incident, labeling it as “completely unacceptable.” He assured that the department is providing full support to the injured officer and their family during this challenging time.
