A serious collision involving a lorry, a minibus, and multiple cars has resulted in significant delays on the M23 motorway near Gatwick Airport. The accident occurred on the northbound side of the M23, spanning between Junction 9 for Gatwick Airport and Junction 8 for the M25.
The incident has brought traffic to a complete standstill since 11:45 am today (April 18). The motorway’s northbound carriageway has been fully closed, trapping approximately four miles of traffic behind the accident scene. Although the southbound side has been reopened, the northbound lanes remain inaccessible to motorists.
Google Maps data indicates that the journey from Gatwick to the M25, which typically takes about 15 minutes, is now experiencing significant delays, with road users facing an hour-long wait to navigate through the congestion.
The traffic backlog extends back to Junction 10 for Crawley and Junction 9 for Gatwick Airport. To manage the flow of vehicles, a diversion route has been established, directing motorists via the A22 at Newchapel towards Godstone.
