Golfers Gear Up for Marathon 72-Hole Charity Challenge at East Brighton

Two pals take on epic golfing marathon

Lee Middleton and Shane Dilloway-Thompson are set to tee off for an epic 72-hole golf challenge on Friday, June 21 at East Brighton Golf Club. Starting at 05:30 and finishing by 20:30, the duo will play non-stop with no buggies allowed. Lee describes the feat as “the equivalent of walking a marathon before even swinging a club.”

Personal story fuels their drive

The pair’s motivation runs deep. They are raising funds for New Life Special Care Babies, inspired by their connection to CEO and founder Trevor Goodall.

Trevor lost his twin boys, Joshua and Samuel, born prematurely at just 24 weeks, back in 1995. Since then, New Life has supplied specialist neonatal equipment to hospitals across the South of England, starting with The Great Western in Swindon.

“I’ve been supporting New Life for around 10 years now,” Lee reveals. “Their work is vital, and the annual charity ball has become a tradition for me. But this 72-hole challenge is a whole new level.”

Training hard, aiming high

To prep, Lee and Shane have been hitting 27 holes in a day to build stamina. “Knowing we’re raising much-needed funds for neonatal care keeps us pushing forward,” says Lee. “There’s a critical lack of funding in this area, and any help we give supports families with premature babies.”

Rallying community support

Lee, who works at Picture More Recruitment, is calling on friends, family, and the community to back their mission. Picture More plans to raise at least £1,000 in 2024 through bake sales, charity walks, and events.
