In a disturbing incident that unfolded in south Belfast, police have made an arrest following reports of indecent behaviour outside a local school. The incident, which occurred in the Marlborough Park North area, has left the community shaken and authorities working to ensure the safety of students.

According to South Belfast Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Róisín Brown, police received reports of a man parked in a car outside the school allegedly exposing himself to pupils as they walked past his vehicle. Responding swiftly to the situation, officers arrived at the scene on Friday, October 11, and quickly identified and apprehended a 33-year-old suspect.

The man was arrested on suspicion of committing an act outraging public decency and indecent exposure. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Inspector Brown stressed the seriousness with which the police are treating this incident, stating, “We treat reports of this behaviour with the utmost importance, and will continue to relentlessly pursue such offenders in line with our VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy).”

The affected school has been contacted by the police, who are providing ongoing support. Appropriate safeguarding protocols have been implemented to address the distress and upset caused to the school children involved.

Authorities are now appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their investigation. Individuals with potential evidence, including CCTV, dash-cam, or mobile footage, are urged to contact the police on 101, quoting reference number 283 11/10/24.
