Cold Case Shock: Carol Clark’s Tragic Death

Carol Clark was just 32 when her body was found strangled and with a broken neck by a dog walker along the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal on 28 March 1993. She was partially clothed and hidden among reeds and undergrowth. The investigation had stalled for years until the man was first arrested in April 2023 and kept under close watch by detectives. Following fresh evidence or a significant development, police moved swiftly to detain him again for the same murder.

Police Statement and Family Support

“Today’s arrest is a significant development in our investigation to identify Carol’s killer and bring them to justice,” said Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Usher, head of Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Major Crime Investigation Team. “For the past 33 years we have worked hard to solve this case, leaving no stone unturned. Last month, we renewed our public appeal for information, and we appreciate the ongoing support from media and the public. “Our thoughts remain with Carol’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers. We will keep them informed about any further developments.”

Long Road to Justice

  • The arrest revives hope of closing the cold case.
  • Police continue appeals for anyone with information to come forward.
  • Carol’s family remain at the heart of the investigation’s focus.
