An 18-year-old Libyan asylum seeker has denied sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl and exposing himself on a coach from Birmingham to London. Walid Abdulbasit, who arrived in the UK 18 months ago and was under Birmingham Children’s Trust care, pleaded not guilty at Birmingham Crown Court.

Incident Reported Quickly, Suspect Arrested at Motorway Stop

The alleged attack happened shortly after the coach left Birmingham on 18 February. The teenage victim reported the ordeal to the driver, leading to Abdulbasit’s arrest at Rugby Motorway services on the M6. Abdulbasit has no previous convictions.

Trial Set for 2028, Bail Granted with Strict Conditions

The judge granted him conditional bail to a Birmingham address, requiring twice-weekly police check-ins. He must have no contact with the victim or the coach driver. His trial is not expected until November 2028 and will last three to four days.
