Callous Crook Hits Disabled Pensioner Days After Jail

A shameless thief has been jailed for over two years after robbing a 90-year-old disabled pensioner in Sevenoaks, just days after his release from prison.

The Incident: Heartless Theft at Pensioner’s Door

Ambrose Treeby, 40, from Queen Street, Paddock Wood, targeted the elderly woman on 15 September 2024. He knocked on her door and waltzed inside uninvited.

Treeby used a sneaky distraction trick. First, he approached a neighbour, pretending to collect scrap metal. After striking out there, he moved on to the victim’s home.

Once inside, he acted concerned about the neighbour and asked for the woman’s phone number. Producing a £20 note, he requested change and watched closely as she checked her handbag. As soon as her back was turned, he snatched £30 from her purse and made a swift getaway.

Fast Police Work Nails the Crook

CCTV caught Treeby’s white Citroën entering the victim’s street and showed him heading to the elderly woman’s home. Police swooped and arrested him on 17 September.

He was remanded in custody after a court appearance the following day.

Judgment Day: Jail for Callous Burglar

At Maidstone Crown Court, Treeby pleaded guilty to burglary. On 19 December, he was slapped with a sentence of two years and almost five months behind bars.

Detective Constable Rosie Acton slammed him: “Ambrose Treeby is a callous and heartless individual. Within a week of being released from prison for similar crimes, he preyed once again on a vulnerable victim.”

“People like Treeby target older folks because they’re trusting, exploiting them without a second thought to the damage caused to their confidence and wellbeing.”

This shocking case is a stark warning. Communities must stay alert and protect vulnerable neighbours, especially the elderly, from ruthless criminals.
