EastEnders fans are clamouring for the return of Gita Kapoor, a much-loved character who vanished from Albert Square way back in 1998.

Gita Kapoor: ’90s Fan Favourite Ready for a Comeback?

Played by Shobu Kapoor, Gita was a hit in the ’90s, known for her fiery antics alongside husband Sanjay Kapoor (Deepak Verma). The power couple made a dramatic exit after being caught up in a nasty local scandal and fleeing Walford.

Recently, hopes soared when Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) casually dropped Gita’s name during a chat on the square. Fans took it as a sign that the soap might be teasing Gita’s return.

Fans on Reddit Beg for Gita and Sanjay’s Return

Over on Reddit’s r/EastEnders forum, viewers sparked a buzz:

“What are the chances we’ll get to see another ‘90s favourite return? I hope so, as Cindy has mentioned her a few times now!”

The call quickly caught fire, with many eager to see the duo back in action:

  • “I’d love to see Gita and Sanjay back, even if just for a short stint. They had great storylines.”
  • “She was brilliant! Wouldn’t be surprised if she popped back for a guest stint when Cindy takes a break.”
  • “Love to see Gita again and Sanjay – they were brilliant.”

However, not all fans are sold on Sanjay’s return:

“I liked Gita and loved the actress as Mrs Khan, but Sanjay? Not so much. He always seemed to be gossiping and sticking his nose where it didn’t belong!”

Is a Gita Comeback on the Horizon?

The BBC has kept tight-lipped about any plans, but Cindy’s recent mention has sparked serious speculation. Could EastEnders be planning a nostalgia-fuelled reunion?

For now, fans should keep their eyes peeled on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Gita Kapoor’s return to Albert Square might just be closer than we think.
