Tragedy in Heysham: Toddler Killed in Early Morning Explosion

Police rushed to Heysham at 2.40am on Sunday after a terrifying blast tore through a residential street. Two houses were completely flattened, with a third suffering serious damage.

Little George Dies, Parents Hurt

Tragically, two-year-old George Arthur Hinds lost his life in the explosion. His parents, Vicky Studholme and Stephen Hinds, were injured but their wounds aren’t life-threatening.

“We are devastated at the loss of our beautiful George. He was so precious to us. We have no words to describe how we feel and just want time to ourselves to come to terms with what has happened. Our beautiful little angel grew his wings today.”

Critical Injuries and Emergency Response

Two more people remain in hospital with critical injuries. Emergency teams, including 80 firefighters at the blast’s peak, are still at the scene. A safety cordon and evacuations remain in place as gas engineers work to secure the area.

Local authorities are caring for evacuated residents, some of whom fled in pyjamas or nightwear, having had no time to grab essentials.

Community Rallies with Donations and Fundraising

Support has poured in for the shaken residents of Mallowdale Avenue. A GoFundMe set up by pub manager Heather Brandwood raised over £20,000 in just four hours.

Heather said, “It’s humbling to see the community come together. People are donating clothes and toiletries to those who lost everything.”
