Surfers and Coastguard Rescue Two Cut Off by Tide at Seven Sisters
Birling Gap Coastguard had to spring into action for the second time this Tuesday after surfers spotted two people stranded below the Seven Sisters cliffs, trapped by the tide.
Surfers Help Before Coastguard Arrives
Having just been stood down from a previous callout, the coastguard was quickly redeployed to the scene. The quick-thinking surfers got the two stranded individuals to safety before handing them over to the coastguard team.
In the chaos, one surfer lost their surfboard to the waves.
Newhaven Lifeboat Briefly Deployed
The Newhaven lifeboat was also paged at 2:05pm but was stood down shortly after leaving the harbour.
Coastguard Praises Surfers, Issues Safety Warning
“Great respect to the surfers and hope you located your abandoned board! The two rescued were very grateful to the surfers and all involved,” said Birling Gap Coastguard.
The coastguard urged the public to always check tide times before venturing beneath the cliffs.
