RNLI Lifeguards Gear Up to Protect East Sussex Beaches This Summer
Recruitment is now open for this season’s RNLI lifeguard team to keep beachgoers safe across East Sussex. These lifesavers do more than just rescue swimmers in trouble. They also deliver crucial first aid and beach safety advice to ensure everyone returns home unharmed.
Last Year’s Lifesaving Stats – 359 People Helped
In 2022, RNLI lifeguards responded to 359 incidents along East Sussex beaches, saving hundreds from danger. From pulling swimmers caught in fierce currents to rescuing children blown out to sea on inflatables, the team was busy. They also came to the aid of paddleboarders and provided vital emergency first aid all summer long.

No Experience? No Problem – Training Starts Soon
Interviews kick off early March, with lifeguard training running from April to July. Induction courses cover lifesaving basics, rescue board skills, and a three-day casualty care course for first aid. You don’t need prior qualifications—RNLI will help you get certified.
The lifeguards will patrol East Sussex beaches from 7 April to 1 October 2023.
