Eastbourne Eagles Fly Away with Easy Win Over Isle of Wight Warriors
The Isle of Wight ‘Wightlink’ Warriors are still hunting for their first victory in this season’s National Trophy after Eastbourne Eagles cruised to a commanding 53-37 triumph on the Island.
Eagles Bounce Back with Authority
Coming off a stinging loss at Birmingham just a day earlier, Eastbourne’s squad clearly responded to some tough words from the management. They wasted no time stamping their dominance on the track, delivering a polished team display that left the home Warriors struggling in dusty conditions.
Standout Stars and Warrior Woes
Former Warrior Mark Baseby led the charge for the Eagles alongside rising star Tom Brennan, who impressed the crowd with several strong finishes. The Warriors leaned heavily on returnee Ben Morley, who racked up 14 points including the fastest time posted by a home rider this year. Unfortunately, no other Island racer could cross the finish line first, making the night a tough one against such a sharp Eastbourne side.
Team Scores and What’s Next
Warriors: Ben Morley 14, Danno Verge 3+1, Scott Campos 6, Chris Widman 5+1, Ben Hopwood 7, Jamie Bursill 0, Shaun Tedham 2+1. Eagles: Georgie Wood 7+1, Jason Edwards 8+1, Tom Brennan 11, Charley Powell 6+1, Mark Baseby 13, Nick Laurence 3+1, Kelsey Dugard 5.
The Warriors get a quick chance to bounce back, travelling to Plymouth tomorrow for a National League match. Meanwhile, the ‘Wightlink’ Wizards hit the track to face Exeter Falcons in the Southern Development League.
Line-Up Changes for Warriors
The Warriors will use Rider Replacement for Scott Campos, with James Chattin stepping in at reserve. The Wizards will feature Isle of Wight locals Morgan Williams and James Luckman, teaming up with Chris Watts and Ben Ilsley as they look to impress.
