A fresh YouGov poll of UK adults reveals 59% are already making eco-friendly choices to lower their carbon footprint. However, 65% believe the nation isn’t doing enough to tackle climate change.

Most Brits Taking Climate Action – But Urgency Remains

The survey shows 17% of people go out of their way – even when inconvenient – to live a low-carbon lifestyle. Yet almost two-thirds of respondents say the UK must step up efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Professor Jason Lowe OBE, Head of Climate Services at the Met Office, warned: “The only way to avoid the worst impacts from climate change is to cut emissions fast. The public is engaged and ready to do more. We must also adapt to the changes already locked in.”

Climate Change Fuels Extreme Weather, Say 3 in 4 Brits

Three-quarters (76%) of those surveyed link climate change to extreme weather events. One-third believe climate change is the full cause, while 42% see it as a major factor, alongside others.

The UK’s record-breaking heatwave last July, smashing 40.3°C for the first time, was cited as a clear example.

Simple Changes Can Make a Big Climate Impact

Dr Camilla Mathison from the Met Office points out that small lifestyle tweaks can pack a punch. “Walking or cycling short trips cuts CO2 emissions, improves air quality, and boosts your health,” she says.

The Met Office backs the Get Climate Ready campaign, urging us all to make daily changes that fight climate change and prepare for its effects.
