Macclesfield Woman Jailed for Five Years After Stabbing Partner
Leanne Melling, 34, from Ripon Close, Whitefield, has been sentenced to five years behind bars after a savage stabbing attack on her partner. The chilling case unfolded at Chester Crown Court on Monday 6 October, where Melling pleaded guilty to section 18 assault.
Violent Row Escalates into Brutal Stabbing
The court heard the couple had argued all day on Sunday 19 January. In an effort to cool tensions, the victim moved to a separate room to sleep.
But Melling wasn’t done. She followed him, desperate to continue the fight. When he refused to engage, she grabbed a knife and plunged it into his abdomen.
During a struggle to disarm her, the victim also suffered a serious stab wound to his hand.
Thankfully, he overpowered Melling, hurled the knife across the room, and locked her in before dialing 999 for emergency help.
Quick Police Response Leads to Arrest and Hospital Rescue
Police were on the scene fast and arrested Melling straight away. Paramedics rushed the victim to hospital, where he received treatment for his stab wounds.
Police Condemn the Attack and Urge Victims to Speak Out
Detective Sergeant Steven Kaminski said: “This was an extremely violent attack that left an innocent man seriously injured and fearing for his life. Melling’s actions are completely unacceptable. This sentence reflects the horror she inflicted on the victim. While he will never forget what happened, I hope it offers some closure and a chance to move forward.”
Detective Constable Oliver Neilson-Bird added: “No one should suffer this kind of abuse in any relationship. I commend the victim for his bravery in coming forward and hope he can rebuild his life after this trauma. Domestic violence can affect anyone. If you are a victim, please reach out for help. Your voice will be heard and support is available.”
Anyone experiencing domestic abuse is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101, report online here, or call 999 in an emergency.
