Gunfire Shatters Morning Calm at Willie’s Bar and Grill

Chaos erupted at Willie’s Bar and Grill on St Helena Island when gunshots tore through the packed breakfast spot. Crowds, including reunion classmates, fled in terror as bullets flew.

Victims and terrified bystanders scrambled for cover, some ducking into nearby shops and buildings to escape the carnage.

Beaufort County Sheriff Confirms Casualties and Ongoing Hunt

“Multiple victims and witnesses ran to the nearby businesses and properties seeking shelter from the gun shots. The circumstances of this incident are still under investigation. At this time, we know that at least 20 people were injured. Four were transported to area hospitals in critical condition and four victims were pronounced deceased at the scene. Names of victims will not be released at this time. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating persons of interest,” said officials.

Authorities praised first responders for their quick action but warned the community faces a grim reality. “This is a tragic and difficult incident for everyone,” they said, urging patience as investigations unfold.

Local Families React to Tragedy

  • A shaken mother said, “My daughter was out there, she is shaken up.”
  • A witness recalled, “I had a customer come into my job who said he’s seen everything and he’s shaken up pretty bad.”
  • One reunion classmate said bitterly, “Couple of my classmates got shot… can’t have a good time no more without someone shooting the place up.”
  • A devastated relative mourned, “I lost two little cousins tonight… can’t even go out anywhere anymore.”

Four injured remain in critical condition in local hospitals. The identities of those killed have not yet been released.
