Soham Killer Ian Huntley Beaten Nearly to Death in Jail Attack

Ian Huntley, the infamous Soham murderer, was left fighting for his life after a savage assault inside a prison workshop. He was bludgeoned repeatedly with a spiked metal pole, leaving him with catastrophic head injuries and medics giving him just a 5% chance of survival.

Miracle Survival After Brutal Head Blows

“It’s nothing short of a miracle he’s still alive,” a source revealed. “When staff found him, he was barely breathing and unresponsive. Doctors said the chances were grim—five per cent at best.”

Huntley remains in a critical condition in hospital, his fate still very much uncertain.

Bludgeoned Six Times With Spiked Pole in County Durham Jail

Emergency crews, including an air ambulance, scrambled to County Durham prison after the horrifying attack. Though a helicopter was ready, Huntley was driven to hospital and placed in an induced coma.

His assailant is thought to be fellow inmate Anthony Russell, 43, a triple murderer and rapist. Russell reportedly struck Huntley at least six times with a three-foot spiked metal pole, splitting his head open.

Huntley is now under armed guard in hospital as top justice officials keep a close eye on the situation.

The Soham Fiend’s Dark Past and Prison Hell

  • Huntley is serving a minimum 40 years for murdering schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002.
  • He lured the two girls into his home after a family barbecue before killing them.
  • Behind bars, he’s been repeatedly targeted — including a 2010 throat slashing that needed 21 stitches.
  • He’s survived multiple suicide attempts, including a 2018 attack using a razor taped to a toothbrush.
  • Maxine Carr, his ex-partner and accomplice, served 21 months for perverting justice and now lives under a new identity.

Always a Target: Prison Violence Inevitable

Huntley’s notoriety has made him a constant target. A prison insider said: “He’s been the ultimate ‘trophy kill’ behind bars for years. Everyone expected this—it was just a matter of time.”

Former Justice Secretary Jack Straw even refused Huntley £100,000 compensation after the 2010 attack, underscoring the grim reality of the Soham fiend’s prison nightmare.
