The much-needed Western Gateway roundabout upgrade at Finchampstead Road and Molly Millars Lane is nearly wrapped up. Good news – the southbound closure will be lifted this Friday, March 6, at 5pm, a whole week ahead of schedule!
This means traffic can finally flow freely in all directions through the roundabout, easing congestion and delays for locals. But don’t pack your patience away just yet, as some traffic management will remain in place on the roundabout’s approaches.
Night-time Shutdowns Set for Surfacing Work
While daytime travellers can breathe a sigh of relief, night owls will face full closures from March 16 to 28. Between 8pm and 6am, the entire roundabout will be shut for vital surfacing and road marking work.
A diversion route will be in place during these overnight closures. Residents will still have access, escorted by site staff, while pedestrians may need to wait or take alternative routes to stay safe.
Ongoing Traffic Controls Until Final Touches
Even after reopening, some lane restrictions could stay put while finishing touches and white lining are completed. The works only affect this roundabout for now — the Tesco roundabout makeover will come later, with details announced in advance.
Drivers are advised to plan and keep an eye out for updates to avoid surprises on the road.
